"On Saturday, Rainier Beach’s Hong Kong Seafood Restaurant — which served up popular dim sum and other Chinese food dishes in the South Seattle neighborhood for 28 years — closed permanently. According to a message left on the restaurant’s official Facebook page, the restaurant’s owners are currently seeking another location. Though off the beaten path for many Seattle diners, Hong Kong Seafood had been praised by customers in the past for its extensive dim sum offerings, including honey walnut prawns and scallop dumplings, along with a family-friendly atmosphere. It was also a gathering place for the community, with wedding receptions, banquets, and nonprofit events hosted in the spacious dining room. According to a post on Vanishing Seattle, the current Hong Kong Seafood owner blamed the rising costs of running a small business in the city for the closing. The space will soon be turned into a mixed-use apartment building by a developer, which seems to be an all too common refrain days, especially for neighborhoods south of Seattle proper." - Gabe Guarente
