"A 117-year-old red-sauce institution whose fate was called into question when the building that houses it was reported as being listed for sale for $9,250,000. The restaurant itself isn’t going anywhere: it signed a 10-year lease in 2022 that covers it through at least 2032, and ownership was transferred to a longtime customer in 2016 (one of its previous owners, Nick Sitnycky, owned the whole building until 2018). As Cushman & Wakefield agent Hunter Moss told Eater, “In fact, we’ve gotten additional interest in the building because of the restaurant — people are excited about it not just because it’s East Village history but New York history,” and he pointed to its cultural significance from being used in an episode of The Sopranos as a selling point for prospective buyers." - Emma Orlow
