"I visited Benicia's One House Bakery and admired its annual pop-culture bread sculpture — this year titled “The Last of Crust,” a clicker from The Last of Us constructed from bread and wiring. The bakery, run by Hannalee Pervan and her mom and co-owner Catherine Pervan, has become known for viral, playful creations (last year’s Harrison Ford homage “Pan Solo,” and in 2021 the trio “Pain-dough-lorian,” “Baby Dough-da,” and the “Pandroid”), and Hannalee says they fell in love with the show — and Pedro Pascal. Standing as tall as one of the show’s zombies, the entry wears a One House Bakery tee beneath a hoodie while mushrooms spill out from its chest and head, with a wall of cordyceps behind it. The piece is entered in the Downtown Benicia Main Street Scarecrow Contest; judging ends Sunday, October 23, and all entrants are on display the rest of the month with paper voting ballots available at Benicia Main Street, the 30 participating businesses, and the Benicia Farmers Market." - Paolo Bicchieri
