Austin Mexican Restaurant El Alma Is Opening South Austin Restaurant | Eater Austin
"I’m excited that the Bouldin Creek Mexican restaurant El Alma is expanding with a second location this year at the recently-vacated Hyde Park Bar & Grill space, 4521 West Gate Boulevard, Suite B in Westgate, opening Thursday, November 9. The new location will add a morning-time menu with coffee, breakfast dishes, and pastries while otherwise keeping the same Mexican offerings — tacos, enchiladas, and rellenos — including its chuleta de puerco a la parilla (a bone-in pork chop with rice and cheese relleno and sauces) and the codorniz con mole (grilled quail with a pasilla mole). The bar will serve cocktails, beer, and wine, and the renovated space will mirror the original El Alma’s design with indoor and outdoor seating. Under co-founder and executive chef Alma Alcocer-Thomas, El Alma opened in 2011 at the Barton Springs address (which took over a former El Chile location) and is part of El Chile Group, which also oversees the more-casual El Chilito." - Nadia Chaudhury
