"I was notified that a Berkeley resident visited the Berkeley Bowl grocery at 2020 Oregon Street on Tuesday, May 7 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. while infected with measles; anyone who was at the store during that time should monitor for symptoms—runny nose, red eyes, cough and fever—which often do not appear until 7–21 days after exposure. Health officials note the virus is easily transmitted through a cough or sneeze, can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left, and that infected people do not typically display symptoms during the first four days of their most contagious period; vaccination is recommended as an extremely effective prevention measure. Berkeley Public Health says it is interviewing contacts of the individual, who is no longer contagious." - Ellen Fort
