Chicago’s Love on the Blu under siege for owner bailing out R. Kelly | Eater Chicago

"After Valencia Love posted $100,000 bail to free R. Kelly, her near-south-suburban restaurant has been the target of a social-media and Yelp backlash. I note that Love on the Blu is a full-service, brunch-focused restaurant at 12454 S. Western Avenue in Blue Island that opened in February 2018 and had employed chef Derek Rylon, who drew crowds for his work at Lincoln Park’s popular Batter & Berries before leaving to work at the revamped Frances’ Deli. The restaurant’s Yelp page has been flooded with angry reviews including "The owner supports a pedophile...I would never support such a place" and "I really don’t need to frequent a restaurant whose owner is OK with bailing out R Kelly...Bad, bad move, lady," and Yelp has placed an "unusual activity alert" and a banner saying the page is being monitored by its support team. Love did not respond to Eater; in a Fox Chicago interview she said the bail money wasn’t hers, refused to reveal its source, and said she was helping a friend who maintains he is innocent and that the court will decide." - Daniel Gerzina
