Barbaro Taqueria y Cantina Aims to Captivate Chicago with Beef Tongue | Eater Chicago

"A new Mexican restaurant and bar from David Morales Castañeda and Hector Herrera Yepez (of La Haciendita Taqueria) is opening Tuesday at 2525 W. North Avenue in Humboldt Park in the space that formerly housed West Town Pizza Shop. Barbaro Taqueria y Cantina aims to bring the food of the owners' youth to locals with familiar tacos like al pastor and carne asada alongside rotating regional specialties that use seasonal ingredients, and it will also serve cabeza and lengua. The partners want the space to be welcoming to both people grabbing cocktails and their parents—“not ‘too cool’ for them”—and the cocktail menu mirrors that approach with margaritas and palomas made with fresh citrus and house-made syrups; Morales favors the piña colada, saying, “I wouldn’t order it in most places because it’s too sweet, but this is one we’re really proud of.” Drink offerings will also include a signature michelada, rotating drafts with three Chicago beers, and bottles and cans of Mexican brews." - Naomi Waxman
