"At 145 North Broadway in Baker, I found Upward Projects’ newest Postino WineCafé installed inside an 1895 building — the oldest the group has used — and set to officially begin serving wine and its beloved bruschetta on Tuesday as the chain’s second Denver wine bar. The building was home to the Purity Creamery Co. from 1942 to 1967 and later housed a string of bars, most recently the iconic gay bar Compound Basix (which closed in 2018 after a 25-year run), though fans of those earlier tenants will likely not recognize the space after the renovation. The Broadway-facing exterior has been repainted black and now sports several large windows, while the front interior offers a small lounge with cushioned armchairs facing Broadway; the back features a large bar and another big pair of windows that open onto a spacious, plant-filled outdoor patio. The design keeps artful nods to the street’s history — a wall lined with colorful concert handbills, a disco ball near the bathrooms, and a large, multi-colored vintage Murano glass fixture over the lounge that lends a psychedelic flair — and, as Upward Projects CEO Lauren Bailey put it, they aim to fit into the neighborhood rather than make the neighborhood fit them. The menu mirrors Postino’s original LoHi location with snack-focused offerings like sweet potato wedges, chicken skewers, and the popular bruschetta (served four varieties per order with toppings such as brie-and-almond spread or smoked salmon and pesto), plus soups, salads, and paninis; the wine lineup will rotate multiple times annually and include about 30 by-the-glass options and roughly 40 additional bottle-only varieties, with 50–75% of the wines at any given time available only at Postino. The new Broadway Postino’s hours will be 11 a.m.–11 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 11 a.m.–midnight Friday, 9 a.m.–midnight Saturday, and 9 a.m.–10 p.m. Sunday." - Paul Albani-Burgio
