"On Beverly Boulevard, I found the new supper club Mixtape operating in a startling polarity between absolute brilliance and total incompetence: open since August in the former BLD space, the kitchen (run by executive chef Nathan Santana) produces both technical blunders (a problematic yellowtail crudo) and dazzling successes. Some dishes are intriguing-yet-flawed — a pastrami agnolotti and pork belly nuggets with a root beer BBQ sauce and pickled watermelon rind — but a few plates are so damned good that you can assemble one of the year’s best new meals from them: a hearty, slightly spiced and caramelized beef cheek poutine (Belgian-style fries mixed with shreddings of beef cheek), a subtle, delicate fried whole rainbow trout, and a buoyant chocolate bread pudding. I left both frustrated and impressed by the restaurant’s mix of “blunders and wonders.”" - Mona Holmes
