"Michele and Cindy Savoia run the very definition of an Italian neighborhood restaurant just a few blocks from one of Pittsburgh’s main partying drags. Dish, a beloved favorite for over 20 years now, offers a Sicilian-influenced roster of dishes where high-quality ingredients take center stage. Start with seasonal soup and seafood dishes such as carpaccio di tonno and grilled sardines bathed in fresh lemon juice. Then dig into Savoia’s terrific pasta dishes like his celebrated rigatoni alla scamorza (with cheese). Brother Andrea Savoia runs the energetic front-of-house, where you’ll find regulars aplenty." - Melissa McCart, Hal B. Klein

"Dish is escapism at its finest, or at least a welcome disassociation from gloomy Pittsburgh in the winter. This osteria and bar has some of the best parts of southern Italy under one roof: plates of wild shrimp coated in Calabrian chilis, heaping portions of gnocchi in duck ragu, and a long list of especially good Sicilian wine. In addition to all that, it’s a date night or special occasion go-to where you can linger with a lambrusco spritz at one of the red mahogany tables that are lit by sultry candlelight. Always make a reservation, because the best seats here are hard to come by." - elaine zedack, quayla allen

This place is good, but not as good as I expected given the overwhelmingly positive reviews I’ve seen across the internet. The carpaccio appetizer was delicious but the octopus wasn’t as flavorful as I would have hoped. The pasta entrees were excellent. The tiramisu was also good. The staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was noisy and elegant. I don’t mind the noise! It’s also very dark so if you have vision problems, be aware. I will not go back to this place. The pain of finding parking and the difficulty of getting a reservation at a reasonable time outweighs the experience and food.

This place was recommended to me and i was lucky to make a reservation on short notice. The host at restaurant is very friendly and makes you feel like you are coming over to an Italian house where the family is making a meal. The drink selection is limited, but wine selection is more than adequate. The appetizers were on point and all the pasta dishes were excellent. I wasn’t a fan of any of the deserts, except tiramisu was ok. Would definitely recommend this place and hopefully will return.

Hands down best italian restaurant in pittsburgh and one of the best in general. The food is phenomenal and the atmosphere fits the vibe very well.

Pittsburgh's best kept secret. This food is magical. The service was great. The drinks were great... who would've thought that I'd enjoy a non alcoholic cocktail? As the kids say, I'd get my big back on here any day! The staff is always amazing. Service is great. Not to be shallow, but everyone here was even a treat to look at. This is the place I go to when I need self love. The food just hugs me. Great flavors, presentation, and everything. IF there's any downside, it's the parking. Good luck finding a spot nearby. It is more accessible by other transportation, though. Great atmosphere and all. I wish I could give it even more stars.

We had a great experience here this week. We were invited to join a friend, which was the only reason we went. I say that because our last experience here, before the pandemic, was terrible. We had honestly sworn this place off because of the bad behavior of the owners. But since our friend was visiting from out of town, and she had a prime time reservation, we decided to go, mostly to see her. I am glad we did. The food and service did not disappoint. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. My partner and I split a tuna carpaccio appetizer. We liked it, and there was nothing wrong per se, but it wasn't very exciting. The tuna broke apart when lifting it off the plate since it was so thin. I understand that the thin slices are appropriate for carpaccio, but maybe if it was presented differently--perhaps rolled into a tube, or served on a lettuce leaf--it might have survived the trip from plate to mouth better. As such, the small pieces of tuna were mildly frustrating to eat. My partner had the Frutti di Mare. It was a generous serving of seafood in a nice white wine sauce over pasta. Very good from what I tasted. I had the mixed grilled seafood, and it was excellent. The grilled calamari may have been the best grilled calamari I have ever eaten. I could easily have eaten a whole plate of that grilled calamari and went without the shrimp, swordfish and scallops that, although cooked perfectly, just didn't have the same wow factor. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine at about $50, which was appropriate for a restaurant such as this. So, the bad experience that we had from before the pandemic didn't carry over to this visit. We were extremely happy with this recent experience.

Google
Excellent little Italian spot in the south side. We shared a few small plates and some pastas, everything was delicious! The grilled calamari was very tender and flavorful. The seafood in the spaghetti was also perfectly cooked. Drinks and service are on point. The tiramisu and panna cota are not to be missed

I'm in love with this restaurant. Everything is made for comfort. The restaurant is small and cozy; it has 2 rooms: the one at the entrance with a well stocked bar with seating (great alcoholic and non alcoholic cocktails) and some tables, and a second one with only tables. The tables are very close to one another but that's not a problem usually. The baristas, servers, and owners are great, welcoming, and professional. You can tell that their main priority is to take care of the patrons. The food is real Italian and the dishes are quite large which is nice. The menu changes seasonally with some evergreen dishes. I highly recommend the pappardelle with mushrooms, they are to die for but honestly everything is mouthwatering. Being small I suggest making a reservation, they are usually booked for weeks if you want to go on the weekend. During the week there is a bit more availability especially if you are willing to go late in the evening. They are only open for dinner. Dish Osteria is a gem in Pittsburgh that I highly recommend!

This is our absolute favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh! Every single aspect of it is first rate!

Yelp
Hands down our favorite spot in Pittsburgh. The staff is always friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, Every time we visit, we feel genuinely cared for. Now, let's talk about the food--absolutely phenomenal! My go-to dish is the rigatoni because it's the perfect balance of flavor and ingredients. I also love their seafood spaghetti, calamari, focaccia bread, and let's not forget limoncello cheesecake for dessert! What I appreciate most about how they accommodate dietary preferences. I have a severe tree nut allergy and they take it very seriously / can adjust certain meals (like the rigatoni accordingly and treat with care.

Yelp
Disappointed to say the least and it breaks my heart to say it. I have heard nothing but great things about this spot and was looking forward to going for over a month My friend has Celiacs disease and our waiter didn't properly explain what she can and can't have then kinda got annoyed with us which was offsetting The scallops and beef tenderloin were awesome Everything else... significantly over salted. It wasn't even us being excessive. I heard the table next to us making the same comment so maybe it was just a slip up that night. Albeit, a restaurant of that quality and price shouldn't have those and that is why I won't give it a second chance My one friend who recommended it and has gone serval times said he went recently and had the same issue with his dish ?? Idk but I hope they figured it out because they have a great reputation and beautiful inside set up

Yelp
First off, I really enjoy the ambiance of this spot! Cozy & dimly lit, it reminds me more of an Italian spot you'd find in NYC than Pittsburgh. The service was good as well, and we enjoyed our time dining here. Now for the most important part - the food. We started off with their antipasto, which I appreciated because it had more interesting options than most. We then had the sardines (first time trying them - I loved how they were prepared) as well as the octopus, which was my favorite dish of the night. For our mains, we tried their famous rigatoni (which we'd been looking forward to all day) as well as the steak. Unfortunately, these weren't quite as good as some of our apps had been. I can't say I understand the hype behind the rigatoni - it's a decent dish but not particularly flavorful/outstanding. The steak could've been good but it was lukewarm by the time it was served, and the salad on the side was very bitter/didn't compliment it that well (it's not like it was so fatty/rich that such a bitter salad was needed). Luckily, dessert revitalized us - they were serving a special pumpkin panna cotta with a pumpkin seed brittle, and that was one of the better desserts I've had! Hopefully that makes a reappearance every fall - I'd happily return to have that alongside one of the amaros from their thoughtfully designed amaro list (where they note the flavors in each amaro they have - we had a lot of fun looking at this and choosing our amaros!) Overall, I enjoyed dining here and think it's a fun date night or girls night out spot! Definitely come hungry because there's a lot of delicious dishes on the menu, and make sure you save room for dessert and amaro!

Yelp
I would give dish 10 stars if I could! We had the most amazing dinner here for my husband's birthday. We made reservations for a Friday night as soon as the reservations opened up (30 days out). The space is pretty small inside, so definitely recommend reservations, but they did have some seats at the bar open when we were there. The meal started with their complimentary bread and dip, and we ordered the gnocchi and Rigatoni Alla Scamorza. While both were delicious, we agreed that the rigatoni was the favorite! If you're looking for authentic Italian, this is your spot! Everything was served piping hot and fresh and came out so quickly after ordering. I also had one of the best dirty martinis ever, with Gorgonzola stuffed olives. We ended the meal with tiramisu which, again, was some of the best I've ever had!

Julie Anna E.

Yelp
Amazing pasta dishes, great wine selection, bread service, and fabulous appetizers- what's not to like? The perfect date night spot. Cozy, intimate, and welcoming. Every pasta dish here is amazing so I don't have a favorite, but when it comes to the appetizers- I like the grilled octopus and the shrimp. Also love their bread and house dipping oil- yum! You have to end the meal with a dessert wine- it is a must! Enjoy!!

Yelp
More than 20 years ago, we had our very first date at Dish and we couldn't be more thrilled to celebrate each year in the presence of greatness. This meal was exceptionally delicious and the bartender and waitress were both so friendly and helpful. They graciously offered some Prosecco on the house to celebrate. The ambiance is so romantic and beautiful. But the food, oh yes, THE FOOD is what keeps us coming back. Their fennel dusted scallops with beets is so out of this world good. It's spectacular! Their pastas are fresh and homemade. If you like frutti di mare, theirs is the best I've ever had, even the ones we had in Italy, and their pappardelle with mushrooms was absolutely divine. They have a nice cocktail and wine list and make a mean Negroni. We enjoyed a nice Amaro with a wedge of their fig cake that came with vanilla whipped cream. It was so good. I'm still thinking about it. Not overly sweet and so flavorful. We really love Dish and wish them many more years of success.

Yelp
Delicious food and amazing service! I came to dish on a Wednesday night after having made a reservation 2 to 3 weeks ahead of time. Yes, that is 100% necessary. Even on the Wednesday night, the restaurant was full. Staff was very kind and attentive.they helped us get a drink while we waited for them to prepare our table. The order was correct and came out promptly. Food was absolutely amazing. Would definitely love to come back and would highly recommend this place.

Rachel J.

Yelp
It's such a treat to go to Dish, and as an Italian I always feel right at home! The rigatoni alla scamorza is iconic and not to be missed, but you definitely won't be disappointed with any pasta on the menu. Service is always great. The atmosphere is cozy, but sometimes bordering on claustrophobic when the dining room is full. You'll definitely want to have a reservation or arrive a couple of minutes before they open and join the line outside to avoid a longer wait.

Yelp
Dish Osteria is a South Side gem!! Nestled just a few blocks off bustling E Carson towards the Slopes, Dish Osteria is a charming, intimate Italian eatery. Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you - this place packs a serious flavor punch! For food, we ordered the Rigatoni alla Scamorza Affumicata and Cavatelli con Salsiccia e Rapini. Let me tell you, the pasta at Dish Osteria is next-level amazing. The cream sauce in the rigatoni was so rich and delicious omg I wanted to drink it. I ordered the Dirty Dish Martini with gin to drink and it was pretty good! I think it could've used more olive juice, but that's just personal preference. The Table bread that came was very delicious as well!! They're on the smaller side, so snagging reservations can be tricky. My advice? Plan ahead! Look a few weeks in advance for your desired date to secure your spot at this South Side treasure.

Karen H.

Yelp
Tucked away on 17th Street in South Side is a gem of an Italian restaurant, Dish Osteria!! Definitely make reservations because the space is small but cozy. I would recommend booking a month in advance when they release the reservations if possible. Note, they will only let you make reservations for five people or fewer so not a good space for larger groups. We absolutely loved everything we ordered. My favorites were the rigatoni, the cavatelli, and the amazing focaccia bread they gave us! All the pasta tasted fresh and flavorful. What we got: Focaccia with olive oil and balsamic vinegar Melanzane e Mozzarella di Bufala - grilled eggplant, buffalo mozzarella, basil, aged balsamic, and Sicilian extra virgin Gamberi - sauteed wild Gulf shrimp in white wine extra virgin, garlic, tomatoes, parsley, and crushed red chili pepper Zuppa di Cannellini e Bietole - cannellini beans and rainbow chard soup with fresh garlic and onions, Reggiano, and basil Gnocchi alla Bolognese - house made potato gnocchi in a meat sauce made with beef and pork, Reggiano, and basil Rigatoni alla Scamorza Affumicata - rigatoni with smoked scamorza, prosciutto di Parma, peas, and roasted and salted pistachio nuts in a cream sauce with Parmigiano Reggiano, fresh ground black pepper, and parsley Cavatelli al Sugo di Salsiccia - homemade semolina cavatelli in a tomato sauce with homemade sweet Italian sausage, red Carmen peppers, fennel, chanterelles, and oyster and lobster mushrooms

DJ J.

Yelp
One of our favorites. One of the best Italian restaurants in the area. Service was very good. Bartender is a star. The gnocchi is so soft and perfectly cooked. The Costada di Maiala is so good, a great combination of flavors and cooked perfectly. Some intense flavors with the scamoza and speck that was stuffed in the rib chop.

Angie S.

Yelp
Would give 10 stars if I could. Cute, cozy ambient place with the most outstanding service. Warm wonderful bread with oil, we had a caprese salad, tomato's were wonderful & fresh cheese, sausage appetizer was amazing too. I opted for the steak, which was cooked perfectly with a corn salad that was so refreshing. Hubby had the pasta, it was creamy & full of flavor. We didn't feel rushed at all & will surely be returning.

John F.

Yelp
My wife and I always have a date night here. It's a cozy spot with even better food! They do allow walk ins, but there is a line, so good luck! We made a reservation every time and are always seated immediately. Our servers are always knowledgeable and tell us what they recommend. I got the grilled octopus, and it was fresh and delicious. My only complaint is there was a bit of a char flavor that was a tad overbearing. The mushroom pappardelle was out of this world. So much flavor from the garlic, mushrooms, and sauce. The pasta was a fresh perfect al dente. You can tell it's handmade from the delectable taste. I would recommend Dish over and over again; it's an Italian gem in the Southside.

Brooke T.

Yelp
This was my second time coming here and it was amazing as the first. The food was amazing. We left full but not too full. The first time having sword fish and it was definitely cooked right. The shrimp, scallops, and calamari were all over cooked which was disappointing. I felt that the calamari that was grilled tasted too charred and you didn't get the flavor of the actual squid. The carpaccio paired perfectly with the Parmesan cheese. Drinks were all amazing! Nothing was too sweet and drinks were made classy. The place is packed! We got there 15 minutes before opening and there was a line to get in. Reservations are booked up weeks in advance. Place was very intimate but loud. The restaurant is small and they pack a lot of people in there. The wait staff were very clean, professional, kind, and helpful! Cant say enough good things about the staff. The restaurant was also very clean and well managed. Bathrooms are small. Only 1 toilet for men and 1 for women. Place was very classy and upbeat.

David C.

Yelp
This is not your typical Italian spot. This has some next level dishes. Combination of ingredients for each plate is well crafted. My coworker took me here because I wanted good Italian with a bar. Raelynn made some awesome cocktails as well, and was super friendly serving us for our meal. The owner greeted us at the door and sat us down and did the same for everyone who walked in the door. An incredibly hospitable service here. Very down home. The food; I went with the stuffed pork chop. None in 12oz, stuffed with speck, cheeses and some other goodies. They did not under season. So juicy and the speck in there was just indulgent. Served with home made gnocchi. This was perfectly browned, and so fluffy. Very well made. Had the shrimp appetizer and that sauce with the soft focaccia bread was stellar. You can tell that anything on the menu was going to be a hit. If I am ever in Pittsburgh again I am coming here. The menus changes often for what's in season. But I would def recommend to anyone, it's off the beaten path, but not impossible to find. Well worth the journey to get here. I'd advise reservations, I got lucky getting a bar seat. Whether you live here or are in town, go to Dish Osteria

Teresa M.

Yelp
Hands down the best restaurant in Pittsburgh. In a small house that sits back from Carson Street in the Southside, a charming and intimate dining experience that you will not be able to stop talking about. Highly recommend reservations about 4 weeks in advance. There are reservations usually available in the more near future, but the available times are usually for later dining times. Those working here definitely take pride in their restaurant and experience. The menu is refreshed weekly. I enjoyed a seasonal craft cocktail. Then we shared a salad, shrimp appetizer, gnocchi with ragu, rigatoni with prosciutto and pistachio in a cream sauce, and a tiramisu dessert. I dream regularly about the most airy dainty delightful gnocchi I've ever experienced as well as the other dishes we enjoyed! This is a culinary experience that will bring so much joy and we highly recommend.

Lisa E.

Yelp
The food is incredible! This is one of Pittsburgh's best kept secrets! The staff is always friendly and the service is outstanding.

Humphrey F.

Yelp
I ordered their popular spaghetti ai frutti di mare and Rigatoni alla scamorza affumicata. The portion of seafood is more than the spaghetti you can enjoy and the spaghetti is really tasty soaked with white wine and EVOO. The rigatoni is creamy and enticing with the special cheese and sauce, the topping of nuts and prosciutto makes it absolutely faultless.

Jess N.

Yelp
Dish is hands down my favorite place, I love everything from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. I have been lucky enough to get to know Andreas and the rest of the staff and they are fantastic. There hasn't been one thing I don't love. Honestly I usually order two pastas because I refuse to not get the rigs everytime! The BEST food and homemade pastas. I love the martini - they have my favorite hand stuffed olives. The ambiance is small, cozy, and ton of candles. Perfect for me!

C A.

Yelp
Nice , cozy Italian's bistro in the core of the South Side, small but interesting menu, nice wine list, by the glass or bottle. Sardines are awesome, probably Portuguese... Good place for a dating night C.

Mary I.

Yelp
This is a must try restaurant in Pittsburgh with authentic Italian food. The food is so fresh and very clean. Everything is cooked so well with incredible flavor and it all tasted amazing. They have a very extensive seafood portion on their menu! A lot of options for appetizers and side dishes. The service was very good. Everyone there was so kind and helpful. The place is very cute and very cozy and intimate (and kind of small). You definitely need a reservation here. Only complaints: - the bread was very warm and the menu is a little bit on the price side. Overall, amazing though!

Raquel Lynn H.

Yelp
Finally checked out dish osteria and it unfortunately was overhyped. Best item was my friends mushroom pasta but the veal was EXTREMELY salty.

Sydney T.

Yelp
One of my favorite date night restaurants in Pittsburgh. The gnocchi is out of this world. The ambiance is sublime. Don't expect to bring in a table of 6+! Best for a couple's night.

Kaylie W.

Yelp
My all time favorite Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh. Had my birthday here one year, small restaurant but was super nice service and put together tables for me so everyone in our party could fit. Environment and ambiance is amazing. Their ceiling decoration was made of wine corks which I thought was pretty cool. Only downside is that it's pretty dim, had to use flash for pictures. Food has always been amazing and good value for the price. My favorite appetizers were the [Gamberi in Padella] and [Polpo alla Griglia]. Very tastefully grilled, leaving the seafood tender and juicy. I can't seem to find the toast one on the menu anymore. Hoping they bring it back because I also really liked that one. Entrees were all classic Italian dishes, none left an especially outstanding impression, probably because they were all classic dishes but each was well made. Can't go wrong with any of them. Same goes for the dessert. Drinks were fairly cheap for such a nice restaurant ($12 for each on the menu). Each drink was interesting (my highest compliment for food) and aesthetic.

David D.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try this restaurant after having seen it reviewed very highly and held up as one of the best if not the best Italian restaurant in town. I was intrigued by the menu, but my expectations were vastly exceeded when I arrived at an unassuming building on the southside to find warm and welcoming service, a beautiful and cleverly decorated room, and food that was absolutely sublime. We started with the grilled calamari, jumbo shrimp, brown butter gnocchi, and their fall salad and then enjoyed the following entrees: rigatoni, cavatelli, pappardelle, and mixed seafood grill. The proteins were perfectly cooked, the pastas were al dente perfection, and each sauce pairing was absolutely inspired. Detailed descriptions of the individual dishes are captioned with each photo but I would be remiss if I failed to mentioned their unbelievably delicious house bread which was simultaneously crispy, dense, and chewy, and wonderfully flavorful. The entire experience was a complete 10 out of 10 and I can't recommend it highly enough. I can't wait to come back! This is now my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh.

Sam D.

Yelp
It was my first trip back to dish since before the pandemic. The food did not disappoint at all! The seared scallops and antipasto were the perfect appetizers to start our meal. For my main course I got their gnocchi with lamb, it was epic. They gnocchi were light and perfectly cooked! If you have never tried it you have to order the Caponata as a side. It was amazing on top of their bread! My only critique would be their cocktails left something to be desired, I guess with the food being amazing I just wanted more.

Trish T.

Yelp
I was hooked practically from the moment I walked in the door last night. This place has incredible ambiance - screams "date night" - with twinkle lights, warm wood tones, and festive holiday touches. The welcoming bar and staff greet you immediately as you walk in - and you're escorted into the dining room IF you have a reservation (make sure you do - this place is wildly popular). We were at a cramped 2-top, but we decided it was "cozy." We had lots of time before our theater date - so we ordered a glass of Prosecco to start. Our crazy-charming, wonderful waiter was happy to let us slow-go it. He made recommendations when asked and all were spot on. The wine list, as well as beer and cocktails, was quite good. We ordered a recommended montepulciano with our meal. OH - the meal....My friend and I always share. Here's what we ordered: 1- Grilled eggplant w/ fresh mozz and amazingly fragrant fresh basil (antipasti) - all drizzled w/ aged balsamic. This tasted like summer on a plate. SO flavorful!! 2- Grilled octopus (oh, the warm, smoky char!) on a bed of chilled fingerling potato salad. This was also an antipasti. 3- The Rigatoni- aka: THE STAR -- pasta tubes with smoked scamorza, prosciutto di Parma, peas, and roasted and salted pistachio nuts, in a cream sauce with Parmigiano Reggiano. Ooohhhh my GOSH, that creamy sauce tucked into that tube pasta. SO SO GOOD!!!! 4- Limoncello ricotta cheesecake - um, yeah - enough said. Creamy, flavorful. Yum. Had we not been headed to a play, we would've ordered a glass of tawny port to enjoy with the dessert. Alas - we needed to stay awake! #toosad Can't wait to return!!

Mona C.

Yelp
A Gem on the Southside! Was thrilled to get a dinner reservation for 6. Our meals were perfectly prepared by the Chef, and presented quickly by our server. Cocktails were on point and the ambiance was intimate and inviting. I will return and recommend it to my friends. The only downside is the parking situation...but that is Southside.

Brittany U.

Yelp
Great atatmosphere, great sevice and amazing food! We had to make reservations 3 weeks in advance, but it was totally worth the wait! We started off with the beef carpaccio, tuna carpaccio and salsiccia e rapini, which were all great. The beef and tuna carpaccio are expensive for what you get, but we had to try them. For our dinners we got Rigatoni alla scamorza, papardelle al funghi salveggi, spaghetti al frutti de mare. All were beyond our expectations! I highly suggest this place, one of the best Italian restaurants around.

Jennifer A.

Yelp
A cute little place hidden away in south side with nice mood lighting and decorations. Food unfortunately was a miss. Very salty including the side salad. Had to ask for salad to be remade and even the second salad was salty. Won't be returning again.

Liz G.

Yelp
Another fabulous review for a consistently great restaurant. The ambiance is intimate and vibey, service is outstanding and the food is incredible. Each ingredient they use is incredibly fresh, and the end result for all the meals is exquisite!

Deanna L.

Yelp
Food Excellent- Everything! Service Excellent- Authentic Italian Welcoming Host and Servers Ambiance Excellent- Perfectly Quaint - I was first given the bar seating area for three when I made the reservations but then given a table in the main dining area. Destination West Virginia Flew into Pittsburg - spent night- needed a good place for dinner- Investigated restaurants- came upon Dish Osteria - What a find! This will be my go to whenever I am in Pittsburgh.

Pragna M.

Yelp
Arrived early and was seated promptly. Our waiter was super attentive and sweet. He noticed we finished our bread quickly and refilled it because it pairs well with our appetizers. The drinks were fantastic. The restaurant had dim low lighting, perfect for date night. The appetizers were amazing. The shrimp dish was super flavorful and the sauce is worth soaking up with the bread. The eggplant and homemade baked ricotta were epic! The pastas were both really filling and rich. I had leftovers but still had to order the dessert. The tiramisu was also very rich but had just enough coffee flavor. All in all, an epic meal! 10/10 would recommend!

Jay T.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. Very small and intimate. So reservations are a must. But, it is totally worth the wait. I've gone a few times- always try something new never disappointed. Espresso martini is very good and their desserts are always a perfect end to good food. Portions are just right. The servers are very friendly and knowledge.

Marcus E.

Yelp
Countless number of visits across 20 years: Dish remains one of the finest restaurants in the City of Pittsburgh. Front of house is relentlessly gracious and the intimate venue is the ideal setting for the kitchen's flawless execution on the short and elegant Italian menu.

Truthfully B.

Yelp
Always Deeply Tastefilled and Amazing For me to rate a restaurant with five stars, is nearly impossible, because there are many excellent restaurants that are far above an average experience and atmosphere. I've eaten at Dish a number of times this year, and my wife and I went again last Saturday after some shopping in Shadyside. We usually order the beef carpacio, calamari, and for the main last time we ordered the pappardelle. I had a nigroni for starters, and she had a nonalcholic mixed drink they made especially for her. I've many things on the menu, from the gamberi, and scallop appetizers, to the pea and scamorza rigatoni. The depth of flavor, chew after chew, is simply astounding in richness for the pastas, and the exact right amount of intensity for all of the appetizers we've had. We usually sit at the bar, and try to arrive earlier, rather than later, as Dish is always full by the evening in our experience. Our bartender was on point, highly attentive, and was inventive with the na cocktails. We ended with the panna cotta, which was light and creamy, and had a perfect hint of berries. I had a Kettle espresso martini, and a port to end. We always have a wonderful time, and the food is exquisite. If I had to pick one restaraunt that I would reccomend, and I go everywhere, I would absolutely suggest Dish.

Yelp
We visited Dish for the first time to celebrate a birthday, and I'm so glad we did. Reservations are definitely recommended, as it was quite full for an early Saturday dinner. I had the Rigatoni alla Scamorza Affumicata, and the Panna Cotta as dessert. Both were delicious. Service was also excellent, and friendly. We will definitely return!

Yelp
Second visit to this place and still amazed by all the wonderful dishes!! Highly recommend all dishes especially the seafood appetizers. The grilled octopus and bluefin tuna are my favorites! We shared a main dish - the braised lamb shank with risotto and side of rapini - it's a winter special, definitely get it when it's still available. The lamb shank is so tender and savory, love the sweet pea in the cheesy risotto, creamy but not heavy at all. The service is great, our server helped us coursed our dishes perfectly! Overall a great dinner experience, highly recommend.

Yelp
This is my third time coming here, definitely in my top 3 Pittsburgh restaurants. Everything is delicious you can't go wrong. Pasta is house made, all ingredients fresh. You need a reservation though!

Yelp
Finally got a reservation and it did not disappoint. Walking in the restaurant is pretty small so it makes sense why it is harder to get a reservation. Dark and cozy space with a bar in the front if you want to try your luck with walk ins. Started with an espresso martini which was good, but not the best I've had. They bring out two different types of bread and both were delicious and fresh. Onto dinner, I had the rigatoni and wow, so good and creamy I ate it all. My mom had the gnocchi which was also good but I liked mine more. Service was a little slower than I would have liked but gave us time to enjoy the dinner. They also need to be quicker with updating their menu online. When I got to the restaurant they didn't have what I originally wanted and the waiter had said it is because the menu had changed. I'm a person who looks at any menu before I go, which I'm sure many others do as well.

Yelp
OMG it's absolutely amazing that they've reopened. The food is so far beyond delicious that I just don't have words for it. When you're here it's like dining in NYC, Rome, or Venice, etc. Too bad Pittsburgh doesn't have Michelin Stars because holy poo they should be ranked high. Atmosphere is quaint, welcoming, comfortable and sophisticated. Staff are kind, knowledgeable and very friendly.

Yelp
This is, in my humble opinion, the BEST restaurant in Pittsburgh! The food is consistently OUTSTANDING! I have not had a bite here that has been anything other than absolutely delicious! They start each table with a basket of fresh-baked bread. The focaccia is superb! The company that I have been with has always allowed for a taste of everyone's dish. While I have regularly been very satisfied with my dish, everyone's food has been bursting with delectable flavor. I highly recommend the cavatelli (with lamb ragu - but all of the ragu variations are yummy!). This past Valentine's day, I had one of the best filet mignon's of my life (and I have eaten a lot of steaks)! Dish Osteria is cozy with limited seating so a reservation is strongly recommended (and somewhat challenging to get, unless you plan well ahead of time). The ambiance is casual yet sophisticated. The service has been impeccable every time I have been here. My only criticism is that the dining room can get noisy (due to its intimate size). I actually prefer sitting in the bar room. The quality and preparation of the food along with the excellent service far outweigh the cozy dining room. Buon appetito!

Yelp
This is so worth getting a reservation in advance, which is definitely recommended otherwise you are unlikely to get a table just walking in. This is a pretty small and intimate place so also be prepared for that! Every single dish I have had at this restaurant has been divine. I make no jokes when I say this is easily one of the best restaurants in the city. One of my favorite dishes is the Fettucce ai Funghi! Also mentioning that the service here is top notch. The wait staff are very knowledgeable of their menu and I felt like I was never waiting for anything despite how busy the restaurant was.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try for our Valentine's Day Date, and to say everything about this place was amazing would be an understatement. If you are looking for authentic Italian cuisine, I would rank this up with some of the dishes I have had in Italy. If you are looking to plan a date here, I recommend making a reservation. The atmosphere is very cozy and intimate, and does not have a lot of seating. It's located in a small house off Carson street, in the South Side. The service was outstanding. Our waiter was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. I was extremely pleased with how much time they gave us throughout the night. Our reservation was for 9:30, and we left around 11:30 and never felt rushed. The staff took time between each course to let us relax and enjoy the night. As for the food & drinks: Both of our cocktails were very good and the presentation was beautiful. For appetizers we decided on the Calamari and the Razor clams. Both were amazing, however the Calamari was top notch. We had never had grilled Calamari and it definitely exceeded our expectations. The flavor and presentation were unmatched. For dinner I had the Tagliatelle with scallops, shrimp, and crab, and it was delicious. My boyfriend had the Rigatoni with prosciutto, peas, and pistachios. This dish was our favorite of the entire night!!! I'm still thinking about it! For dessert we enjoyed their Limoncello Cheesecake which was delicious as well! Overall, the atmosphere, staff, and food were outstanding! Without a doubt we will be coming back here!

Yelp
2 words: Authentic Italian Although it is a bit tiny inside and crowded and sometimes noisy; food is great. The service is good and the pasta is amazing.

Yelp
Great food and drink. Loved the copper bar top and small plate appetizers. Need a reservation unless you show up at 5pm and sit at the bar.

Yelp
From the outside, Dish Osteria looks nothing like a restaurant. The South Side eatery blends into the row of houses it sits in -- the only thing setting it apart is a few string lights hanging from the awning. This nonchalant atmosphere carries inside, where tables are nestled into corners of what I imagine to be different rooms in a house. It's cozy, intimate, and unassuming -- which makes their decadent, delicious menu of Italian and Mediterranean dishes stand out even more. Of the many times I've been to Dish, I have never once had a bad experience. From the service to dessert, everything is expertly executed -- wine is poured smoothly, courses timed perfectly. Their wine list is succinct but comprehensive, carrying everything you could need to pair with dinner. The carpaccio is stunning in looks and taste, the thinly sliced tenderloin given an emphasis of fresh flavors with arugula and lemon. Another favorite from nights at Dish has been the calamari, the seafood simply prepared with greens and a squeeze of fresh lemon. Topping the list of their pasta choices is the Rigatoni alla Scamorza (one of their signature dishes), a creamy pasta with prosciutto, peas, and pistachios. Mirroring the restaurant's casual-but-refined approach, it is deliciously rich, balancing the lush sauce with the hit of salt from the prosciutto. And, of course, no meal would be complete without dessert - and the panna cotta is a perfect way to cap an evening. If you're a Pittsburgher and haven't yet been to Dish, bump it up on your list of places to go. It's a cozy, intimate restaurant that will surprise you with simple, delicious flavor and wonderful service.
