"The 50-year-old Hawaiian chain, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, which specializes in the plate lunch (along with items like Spam musubi, katsu chicken, and Korean short ribs), is reopening in New York. First up is the Lower East Side location at 201 Allen Street, at East Houston Street, opening any day now, followed by two more debuting in rapid succession, in East Harlem at 2128 Second Avenue, and a third in Bushwick opening in December at 902 Broadway. The locations come from franchisee owners, brother-sister team Henry and Sephra Engel from Oahu, who say each location will have a signature menu, according to a spokesperson. The restaurant is the only franchise that comes from Honolulu and has over 230 locations; L&L had a Manhattan location on Fulton Street that first opened in 2004 and closed around 2013." - Melissa McCart
