"I watched the highly anticipated collaboration between chef Hanis Cavin and Brandon Zanavich arrive as The Friendly Tavern, a walk-up spot on University Avenue offering a straightforward menu of grilled patties topped with mushrooms, bacon, onion rings, and more. The menu is drawn from the burger specials at Zanavich’s original shop, with sides that include fries and onion rings. The small space has been refreshed with plants and shade sails and now features a renovated back patio with park benches for seating and a revamped bar pouring beers from North Park-based Fall Brewing Company and mixing select cocktails. Open 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday, it serves as an extension of Zanavich’s brand while allowing Cavin to remain connected to the original spot where Carnitas’ Snack Shack made its name." - Mario A.
