"The name means "magic" in Hindi, and that cheery feeling describes this Jamaica Plain spot that operates as a coffee shop by day and is planned to become a wine bar at night. Owner Maya Mukhopadhaya serves Counter Culture coffee, tea, and masala chai from Boston-based Madhrasi Chai, plus sodas during the day alongside pastries from Lavender Bee Baking Co., a peanut and tree nut-free bakery in JP. There's a made-to-order food menu for breakfast and lunch, including a breakfast sandwich with a jammy egg, cheddar, and arugula on focaccia amped up with Calabrian chili butter, and a soul-warming bowl of brothy beans and greens. The project was born out of a series of wine-focused pop-ups Mukhopadhaya did in partnership with Gabrielle Malina (who continues to run First Crush wine pop-ups), and that collaborative, wine-forward spirit is embedded in the new shop. Mukhopadhaya aims to open the nighttime wine-bar service starting in mid-2025." - Erika Adams
