"Opening across from Nationals Park this summer at JBG Smith’s new mixed-use building (1221 Van Street SE), the 10,000-square-foot, two-story Mexican eatery will feature late hours, a scenic terrace, and a huge bar aimed at drinking Tecate and tequila. Co-managing partners Fritz Brogan and Reed Landry, who run Hawthorne and the original Mission in Dupont Circle, plan to fit about 400 seats into the space, which will include four bars (one spanning more than 120 feet), six garage doors that roll up to connect indoor and outdoor dining and private event spaces. The menu is slated to include twelve taco options, huaraches, elote loco, nachos, and flautas, plus two dozen beers, margaritas, wines, and champagne on tap; the timeline is aggressive, with a target opening by the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on July 17." - Tierney Plumb
