"Temporarily closed since June 18 for extensive renovations, Twain’s Brewpub & Billiards in Decatur should reopen sometime in July, owner Ethan Wurtzel says. The 20-plus-year-old space is getting a new patio, storefronts, resurfaced dining tables, replacement of all of the restaurant’s windows, renovated bathrooms, and a new bar in the back pool room — changes Wurtzel says are intended to carry the restaurant through the next 20 years. Opened in downtown Decatur in 1996 as a bar and pool hall and converted into a brewpub in 2006 to allow on-site brewing, Twain’s has ties to brewers such as David Stein of Creature Comfort Brewing; its food embraced a fresh, local approach under chef Savannah Sasser six years ago before she left for Hampton & Hudson in 2017 and later The Expat, and the kitchen is currently led by chef Ryan Burke." - Beth McKibben
