"After suddenly closing its pint-sized Shaw address in early April, I was glad to see Andy’s Pizza quickly reopen in a huge new Shaw flagship in the old Hazel space (808 V Street NW), situated across from its first D.C. location and the legendary 9:30 Club. The New York-style slice shop now features a stylish, spacious covered patio, a full bar with extensive drafts, frozen cocktails and a soda machine that dispenses highballs, a 12-foot refrigerated wall of bottled and canned beers, and some 200 pizza-friendly wines available to take home or enjoy on-site. Andy’s is known for 18-inch pies and individual slices in classic flavors and rotating specials—most notably a best-selling white pie with mozzarella, provolone, roasted cremini mushrooms, and caramelized onions—and its 72-hour cold fermentation gives the crust a unique tang that helped it win the top pie prize at the 2021 International Pizza Challenge. The larger kitchen was built to fix the cramped original space, hours run late for nightlife crowds (Fri–Sat until 3 a.m.), takeout and delivery are available online, and the grand opening included a two-day party with a free slice with any bar purchase." - Tierney Plumb
