"Consider this bright spot as your chance to sample brunch by way of Messina — the Sicilian city that chef and owner Nino Barbalace calls home. The evocatively named eggs in purgatory features eggs, tomato sauce, mozzarella, and pesto cooked in a cast iron skillet. “In Naples this dish is called “ova ‘mpriatorio” because the white of the eggs in the middle of the red of the tomato sauce reminds people of images of souls engulfed in flames,” Barbalace says. His latest offering is a meatball and frittata version of the traditional Sicilian dish called “sciusceddu,” which features eggs, parmesan, ricotta, meatballs, and sage. Zia Gianna is open for indoor dining and takeout by calling the restaurant." - Nathan Tavares
