"I found Shaher Misif's new Marina bar to be playful, inventive, and firmly rooted in cocktail craft after 15 years behind notable bars like Cantina and Bar Drake and winning the 21 Cocktail Salute at Tales of the Cocktail. The novelty glassware trend is alive here, but the drinks are well-made: the Netflix and Chill combines butter-washed bourbon, amaro, tamarind, and elderflower soda served in a red-and-white-striped popcorn box; the Cubby Colada is a genever-based slushy with flower water, coconut cream, vanilla, and pineapple served in a honey-bear–shaped glass; and the appropriately named Mind Blazer is a tequila shooter with pineapple and an herbal tincture presented in a clear glass bong. There are lower-proof choices like the Sherry Amour (cranberry and carbonated sherry), plus natural wine options and a range of beers. Food is designed to be shareable and fun, starting with a charcuterie and cheese plate from Little Bear Boards and a crudité mezze with hummus, and including party items such as Swedish meatballs on tiny swords, a bubbling cheese fondue with bread and pretzels, and bacon-wrapped cocktail wieners; the menu will evolve with pop-ups planned. Misif's touches show up in the decor too — bold floor tiles, vivid floral wallpaper, and tchotchkes like toys and funky sunglasses — and while the team is holding back a few opening secrets, it's safe to say to expect the unexpected." - Dianne de Guzman
