"A recent addition to the Convoy Street culinary scene is a restaurant with strong ties to the Vietnamese coastal city of Da Nang, located in the central part of the Southeast Asian country. Newly arrived to Kearny Mesa, Da Nang Corner is run by owner Quynh Nguyen, who originally moved to San Diego to work at SDSU. Her family used to operate a restaurant in their hometown of Da Nang, and her father, who has two decades of professional cooking experience, is now heading up the San Diego kitchen. Slotted in next to the future spot of CoCo Curry, the popular Japanese chain that’s due to land in early 2021, the 1,900-square-foot eatery is open at 11 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday offering takeout, delivery, and some dine-in service. There’s currently only indoor seating but a patio might be put in at a later date. The menu centers around some of the Da Nang’s most signature dishes, including bun bo hue, a spicy beef noodle soup, and mi quang, a rice noodle dish served with a side of flavorful broth. Da Nang Corner features a version of mi quang with frog, which Nguyen says has fast become a bestseller. Hoi An chicken rice is another regional specialty, named for a nearby Vietnamese city, Nguyen told Eater that she is hoping to build the restaurant into a franchise, and plans to open a subsequent outpost in San Marcos or Escondido." - Candice Woo
