"For a more all-ages experience I recommend Oktoberfest Northwest (October 6 to October 8 at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup): early-bird tickets are all under $20, kids 12 and under get in free and can take part in family activities like a half-mile root beer run and pumpkin carving (not with chainsaws), Manuela Horn is among the entertainment, and there is a "tapping of the firkin" ceremony on Friday — note that after 6 p.m. the event becomes adults-only, so kids won’t see the firkin tapped." - Harry Cheadle
