"Planned for the former Market Square Bar and Grill location at 311 Travis Street, I understand Kanaloa aims to be a hidden oasis in downtown. Its owners—Keith Doyle, Roland Keller and Tyler Barrera—have traveled around the country checking out tiki bars and are currently sourcing tiki gear (think custom-made treasure chests). They hope to open at the beginning of May in a completely transformed space with an outdoor patio and an upstairs event area. The menu is geared for groups, featuring shareable cocktails for up to eight people and plates like chicken skewers and tropical shrimp, with a huge emphasis on rum and plans for nearly 100 different options; the owners say Kanaloa will join Houston’s rum renaissance alongside Lei Low and the rum-focused High & Dry." - Adele Chapin
