"Built in 1943 by the Fodero Dining Car Company, the gleaming, streamlined structure was renovated in 1976 by Carl Laanes (a designer at MoMA) and became a prominent gathering place for NYC’s gay community in the ’70s and ’80s; after a succession of failed chefs in the 2000s and 2010s it has settled into an upscale diner groove offering expensive but recognizable diner fare." - Robert Sietsema
