"I'm excited that the growing, California-born chain is about to open its first Houston location at 9798 Bellaire Boulevard. Born in Cerritos, California, Mochinut already has five Los Angeles–area locations and is planning a major expansion with outposts planned for California, New Jersey, Washington, and Louisiana. The shop is known for its ultra-chewy mochi doughnuts made with sweet glutinous rice flour that creates a distinctive texture; the pastries are topped with vividly colored icing in flavors ranging from banana milk and black sesame to ube, strawberry, and melon. There's also a cinnamon-sprinkled churro doughnut and Korean-style hot dogs on the menu. No opening date has been announced." - Amy McCarthy
