"I saw the Seattle Culinary Academy was slated to be recommended for shutdown by a budget committee, but after an outpouring of community support the program will continue enrollment through at least fall 2022 while the college searches for new funding. Prominent local alumni, including Paolo Campbell of The Chicken Supply and Kristi Brown of Communion, spoke out against the cut; a student-led petition gathered more than 6,500 signatures, students wearing white chef’s uniforms protested while banging pots and other kitchen supplies during a budget meeting, and former Herbfarm chef Becky Selengut collected hundreds of industry signatures in a letter to lawmakers. Dean Aimee Lepage said, "I will say I am incredibly humbled by the level of support and grassroots activism by our students, faculty and community." - Jade Yamazaki Stewart
