"A Venice Beach darling, Gjelina earned a following for its crackly California-Neapolitan pizzas, vegetable-centric menu, and rustic, beachy decor that contrasts with $15 porridge in a way that is quintessentially LA. Named for owner Fran Camaj’s mother, it opened in Los Angeles in 2008 after the original began out of Camaj’s apartment and gained popularity for wood-fired pizza, pastas such as a saffron spaghetti with bottarga and confit tomato, and salads like escarole with smoked almonds, parmesan, and lemon vinaigrette. The Gjelina at the Venetian will sit on the casino’s Restaurant Row and follow the same menu format as the Los Angeles and New York locations — offering lunch items like grilled kabocha squash with miso glaze and vegetable sandwiches and dinner offerings including oysters, charcuterie, mixed mushroom pizza, and orecchiette in beef cheek bolognese — and is being designed by Bishop Pass alongside the Gjelina Group; Gjelina partner and CEO Shelley Armistead said they’re eager to bring their relaxed Venice Beach sensibility to the bustling atmosphere of The Venetian Resort. The group also operates Gjusta bakery, Gjusta Grocer, and the Vitorrja hotel, and its New York location has been closed for more than a year after a fire." - Janna Karel
