"I followed the shop from its Portland launch in 2003 by co-founders Tres Shannon and Kenneth "Cat Daddy" Pogson to its Denver expansion in 2013, where the pink-swaddled location at 1520 E. Colfax drew long lines. A new 98 S. Broadway location is opening soon in the former Famous Pizza space that closed last year after 45 years; the 24-hour doughnut shop is currently hiring. They serve cake, yeast, and specialty doughnuts — classic irreverent staples include the "cock-n-balls" raised yeast doughnut triple-filled with Bavarian cream and topped with chocolate frosting; the Memphis Mafia with banana chunks and cinnamon, glazed and drizzled in chocolate and peanut butter with peanuts and chocolate chips; and the vegan School Daze "PB&J" filled with raspberry jelly and topped with peanut butter plus a side dip of peanuts. Raised yeast options include the Dirt (vanilla frosting and Oreo cookies), Old Dirty Bastard (chocolate frosting, Oreo cookies, and peanut butter), the Loop (vanilla frosting and Fruit Loops), and Oh Captain, My Captain (vanilla frosting and Captain Crunch); cake varieties include Tangfastic, Marshall Mathers, the Ring of Fire, and the Triple Chocolate Penetration. As they say, the magic is in the hole and good things come in pink boxes." - Susan Stapleton
