"Downtown Portland has lost many of casual hangout spots that catered to happy hour meetups and low-key business meetings in recent years. Thankfully, the trend is starting to reverse with bar-cafe hybrids like 40 LBS. The Second Avenue location functions more like a conventional coffee shop, but the Main Street space is open later and features a full cocktail menu as well as a brutalist record player nook in one corner for a bit of extra ambiance. The space is industrial and heavy on cement, but colorful murals and a meandering neon-accented bar give the room a more playful feel than the typical factory floor minimalism found at other contemporary cafes." - Ben Coleman
