"I learned that Salt & Straw’s Palo Alto shop opens on Black Friday, November 23 at 250 University Avenue, with daily hours from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Designed by Andee Hess of Portland’s Osmose Design, it’s the brand’s fourth Bay Area location after Pac Heights, Hayes Valley, and Burlingame. The scoop shop will feature holiday flavors like gingerbread cookie dough and peppermint bark, year-round Bay Area-specific flavors such as Dandelion Chocolate hazelnut cookies and cream and Cowgirl Creamery Mt. Tam cheese with Acme Bread and sour cherry jam, and new “Holiday on Ice Cream” offerings including apple brandy and pecan pie (Clear Lake apple brandy and vanilla custard ice cream with pecan pie filling) and sugarplum fairy (sweet plum jam, marzipan, and Smith Teamaker’s Assam tea ice cream). Non-dairy and vegan options include a cinnamon coconut egg‑nog made with egg-free nog, dried and freshly grated nutmeg, and rum-infused almond milk churned with coconut cream and sugar. I also note co-founder Tyler Malek’s embrace of curious, sample-friendly concoctions—go ahead and try the Thanksgiving turkey flavor made with real turkey fat, or stick with a simple honey lavender if you prefer." - Caleb Pershan
