"Even in an overpriced neighborhood I found a largely unsung coffee bar and sandwich shop where West Village locals — not the townhouse crowd — congregate. A couple of welcoming benches outside fill up in sunny weather and the interior’s irregular floor plan is comfortable, with cookbooks by local authors lining the shelves. The fare runs to breakfast pastries, cookies, panini (often addictive), soups, salads, egg breakfasts and a recently added hamburger; the food is predictable and good, if not spectacular — just the sort of neighborhood clubhouse that doesn’t attract much attention." - Robert Sietsema
