Petworth’s Capitol Cider House Will Start Pouring on Friday - Eater DC

"D.C.’s newest drinking destination Capitol Cider House (CCH) is opening just in time for the weekend, with a debut draft list that ropes in already-established D.C. cider producers Supreme Core Cider and Anxo. The 3,000-square-foot production facility and tasting room, which began taking shape last winter, is scheduled to start serving cider lovers at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 20. A planned grand opening party on Friday is broken up into two sessions: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., with live music during both. The ticketed event ($30) includes a pour of cider and branded tulip glass to take home. Founder Jared Fackrell tells Eater he finished pressing half of a freshly-delivered fruit shipment — aka 3,000 pounds of apples — on Wednesday, July 18. A dozen taps are prepared to pour mainly gluten-free ciders, and there’s also bottled ciders, wine, and cocktails. Tastings start at $3 and glasses peak at $11. Homegrown food hub Union Market will contribute fare from Sri Lanka-inspired Short Eats and empanadas from M’Panadas. There’s also hot dogs and charcuterie plates. The new arrival aims to capitalize on D.C.’s seemingly unquenchable thirst for locally made cider. Budding chain Anxo kicked off the trend in 2016 and has since spread its ciders all across the city. And area newcomer Supreme Core Cider opened its new production facility and taproom in Northeast this past May. Capitol Cider House lives up to its name, sourcing all featured producers within 200 miles of the U.S. Capitol building. Its patriotic mantra is visible everywhere, down to its branded glassware with red, white, and blue tasting flights. Capitol Cider House is projected to operate from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday and Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday." - Tierney Plumb
