"Planned to open in Rockridge by the end of the year, Redfield Cider Bar & Bottle Shop will be run by East Bay couple Olivia Maki and Mike Reis and located in half of the former See Jane Run retail space. They intend to offer tastings and bottles to go of the best domestic and old-world ciders, with 10 to 12 options on tap plus bottle pours, snacks, and a few beer and wine choices. The project responds to a lack of retail outlets for cider and limited wholesaler access: Reis, an Advanced Cicerone who worked at specialty wholesaler Lime Ventures and previously co-directed beverage programs at SF’s Monk’s Kettle and Abbot’s Cellar, sees Redfield as a place to educate customers and give small cider producers on- and off-tap presence. Named for a prized new-world cider apple, the spot aims to treat cider as an agricultural product the way wine is, a point Maki—co-chair for the cider category for the Good Food Awards—has emphasized. Redfield plans both bottle and keg pours and will highlight local producers like Reis’s mentor Tilted Shed Cider Works alongside ciders from New England, France, and Spain." - Caleb Pershan
