"Reopened after an extensive remodel, the 28-year-old Financial District restaurant now called Palio (formerly Palio D’Asti) debuts at 640 Sacramento Street with a much larger bar and an expanded lounge designed for more relaxed dining, plus a separate, bites-oriented lounge menu. The space looks even more elegant with a contemporary, clean black-and-white aesthetic. Longtime executive-chef brothers Mauricio and Jose Alberto Martinez remain in the kitchen but have shifted the focus from strictly Asti cuisine to highlighting a variety of Italian regions across wood-fired pizzas, pastas, and mains; old favorites from the Palio D’Asti days—like whole branzino and cocoa-flavored parpadelle with boar ragu—are designated as classics on the menu. There’s also a new cocktail menu from Matt Grippo and Shirley Brooks of Bottom of the Barrel that features spritzes on draft and an emphasis on Italian amaro. Palio is open 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturdays." - Janelle Bitker
