Elbo Room Space Now Belongs to Team Behind SF’s Playland Bar | Eater SF

"After erroneous rumors that Elbo Room had prematurely closed, co-owner Matt Shapiro confirmed to Eater SF that the much-loved, 27-year-old bar at 647 Valencia Street will operate until the end of the year as planned before handing off its space and liquor license to new tenants. The building’s owners, Susan and Dennis Ring, had not renewed Elbo Room’s lease earlier this year and sold the property after years of concern that the structure might be razed for condos. Shapiro said he and partner Erik Cantu sold only their liquor license to the new group—not the Elbo Room name or any of its components—and urged patrons to “come celebrate Elbo Room for the last two weeks.” Over its run the venue hosted several recurring parties, including Tormenta Tropical and the 21st annual Black X MASS on Christmas Day, and became known for a quirky selection of shows and parties." - Ellen Fort
