"Closed in January ahead of a big development construction project, I learned Swedish Hill (originally Sweetish Hill Bakery) closed its longtime West Sixth location at 1120 West Sixth Street on January 14 and will reopen temporarily in mid‑February at 1128 West Sixth Street as 'Little Swedish Hill' or the 'Swedish Hill Outpost.' The menu remains the same — baked goods, sandwiches, coffees, salads, soups, teas, breads, and more — but the interim spot will be dedicated to takeout and pickup with a deli case and an outdoor dine‑in area nearby, while its catering branch will continue offering cakes and custom cakes for pickup and delivery. Before the outpost opens, Swedish is hosting a pop‑up bake sale at sibling Howards Bar on Sunday, February 4 (8–11 a.m. or until sold out) featuring sweet and savory croissants, cinnamon rolls, bagels, breads, and cupcakes. The bakery began as Sweetish Hill Bakery in 1975, relocated to West Sixth later that decade, was led by Jim Murphy from 1990, and was taken over by McGuire Moorman Lambert (MML) in September 2018 and renamed/reopened in August 2019. The bakery will return permanently to the new mixed‑use development Sixth&Blanco (co‑developed by MML and designed by Herzog & de Meuron) when construction finishes, with everything slated to open in late 2026; when the temporary outpost opens its hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily." - Nadia Chaudhury
