"Tucked directly behind Arden in West Hollywood, the red-lit speakeasy Rideau, unveiled on April 27, feels like a boudoir-meets-supper-club: upon entry I found a darkened 30-seat room cloaked in red velvet banquettes and drapes, a host greeting guests at a flower-lined door, and a couple of seats bought from an old theater. Magicians perform card tricks and illusions at 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. (some drawn from the Magic Castle roster) while bartenders—led by Farron Marcus, who designed the cocktail menu and also performs magic—mix intricate, Parisian-named drinks such as the gin-based Moulin Rouge and the Pigalle (Remy VSOP, Benedictine, lemon, blackberry liqueur, and a cherry wrapped in a candied orange peel). Reservations secure a seat but walk-ins are welcome; Rideau is open Wednesday through Saturday from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m." - Mona Holmes
