The Shining-Themed Karaoke Bar Hallway Opens in Portland’s Old Town | Eater Portland
"Opened this spring by son-father team Tristan and Zac Webster, I visited Hallway PDX at 20 NW 3rd Avenue and found it to be a Shining-themed karaoke bar that deliberately evokes the film’s long corridor — the space itself is about 13 feet wide and 87 feet long. The décor is packed with references: a tricycle perched above the main room, a ceiling printed with the Overlook Hotel’s carpeting, a can of Calumet baking powder on display, a sculpture of Jack Nicholson’s head hidden among the backbar bottles, portraits including shots approaching Timberline Lodge, projections of the Grady twins on the wall, and the film playing silently on loop from a skylight. Bartenders in red vests and bow ties staff a glowing bar and mix movie-themed drinks such as the Redrum (the bar’s take on a Bay Breeze: rum, pineapple, and cranberry juice), the Hedgemaze (a Milagro margarita), and the Grady Girls (a boozy root beer float with Sailor Jerry and whipped cream). The food menu sticks mainly to hot dogs and hamburgers, with free popcorn for those watching the movie on the ceiling. It’s unapologetically a lively karaoke venue — Zac Webster says, “We’re a full-time karaoke bar,” and they offer more than 58,000 songs in the catalog, with the entire bar available for rental at $60 per hour." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
