"This historic restaurant space, dating to the early 1930s and operating as a bar and live-music venue since the 1940s, has reopened after a long pandemic closure. Under chef Joshua Luce (known for the Goldland pop-up and his previous role at Neighbor) the menu emphasizes comfort classics—from tacos to hot chicken—while barman Lee Farrell runs the cocktail program and the opening menu is available. For now the operation is limited to takeout and limited-capacity outdoor dining with no on-site live events per COVID-19 protocols, a striking change for a place that long served as a jazz haven hosting names from Chet Baker to Miles Davis and even appeared in the film La La Land. The return to service at 30 Pier Avenue is being seen as a small bright spot for a music and hospitality scene hard hit by the pandemic." - Farley Elliott
