"Now open in Rancho Penasquitos, I learned that Rice Chicken — the first of at least three planned San Diego–area locations — is a 2,500-square-foot spot serving lunch and dinner with a bar that offers beer, wine, and soju. The fried chicken is coated in a gluten-free rice flour batter for a crispy crust and is available as half or whole chicken pieces as well as wings, boneless nuggets, and gizzards; sauces and toppings range from honey-garlic to sweet-and-spicy and snow cheese (a parmesan cheese powder). The menu also includes a slightly lighter battered-and-oven-baked chicken and a batter-less roasted chicken, plus a few sides such as sweet potato or radish pickles and Korean-style ramen and spicy rice cakes. I note that general manager Phillip Chung told Eater two more Rice Chicken outposts should be coming later this year." - Candice Woo
