"I'm reporting that chef/restaurateur Carlos Altamirano, one of the Bay Area’s best-known ambassadors of Peruvian cuisine, is opening a brick-and-mortar outpost of Sanguchon on Valencia Street (at 23rd Street) in the Mission, in first-floor retail space at a new development. Known from its popular fleet of Peruvian sangucheria trucks, Sanguchon serves casual sandwiches such as lomo saltado (stir fried NY striup sirloin), pan con chicharron (pork loin, sliced fried jams, and marinated onions in lime juice and creme de rocoto), and barbacoa (with Inka cola-based sauce); those items are available as wraps and combo specials with sides like sweet potato fries and platanos fritos and desserts such as alfajores (dulce de leche filled cookies). The Mission outpost appears to be fast-casual with table seating and to-go orders, and customers can expect house-made “refrescos” (freshly blended fruit drinks) as well as classic Peruvian Inka Cola. This will be the chef’s eighth restaurant—his group also operates Mochica, Piqueos, La Costanera, Parada, Paradita, and Barranco—and an opening timeline isn’t yet clear." - Caleb Pershan
