"Bringing its frenzy-inducing wood-fired bagels to Barracks Row, Call Your Mother has signed a lease to move into the Capitol Hill space at 701 Eighth Street SE, will take possession February 1, and hopes to open sometime this spring. I was told co-owner Andrew Dana plans to install new kitchen equipment and commission a mural from Marcella Kriebel (who created the pink-and-turquoise bagel mural at the original shop). The hot-pink Marra Forni brick oven at the Georgia Avenue NW location will still bake all the rounds, which will then be trucked to Southeast; the new space appealed for its white tin roof reminiscent of the first location and a large outdoor patio. The cheekily named deli rose to prominence in late 2018 and was named one of Eater’s 16 Best New Restaurants in America last year. Its menu follows the Timber Pizza–inspired philosophy of sourcing from farmers-market producers, so wood-fired bagels get stuffed with ingredients like seasonal jams and potato chips, and Daniela Moreira bakes babka muffins and black-and-white alfajores. I was told the Capitol Hill shop hopes to offer an expanded menu — including fried latkes and challah roll subs — while keeping mostly the same offerings as the original, with a couple unique items per location to “keep things spicy.”" - Gabe Hiatt
