"Alfred’s Steakhouse has closed temporarily and a representative for the restaurant is unable to say when it will reopen. According to reservations site OpenTable, no tables at Alfred’s are available until June 20. The restaurant representative did not provide a reason for the closure. The city’s oldest steak establishment, Alfred’s opened in 1928 and has endeavored to change as little as possible since then. Daniel Patterson’s Alta Group took over ownership in 2016 and revamped the place slightly, adding a coat of fresh red paint and more grass-fed beef to its menu with the overall goal of preserving the historic business. Alfred’s closed for about six weeks in 2016 during that ownership shuffle, and then again for several months in 2017 after a two-alarm fire did minor damage to the space. The blaze mostly burned the basement beneath the restaurant, but did cause some smoke damage. The restaurant took the closure as an opportunity to revisit its menu again, adding fresh pastas when it reopened last June. Eater SF awaits further details on the current closure, and will update this post as necessary." - Caleb Pershan
