"A New Mexican–leaning steakhouse near upscale Manhattan Beach from chef Daniel Godinez — returning to Los Angeles County after building a following in Orange County with Anepalco and Fonda Moderna — offers a slightly elevated but lively dining experience. The room features stone walls, deep wood tables, long leather banquettes, a French salon–style lounge, bar carts for tableside service when allowed, and seating for more than 100 including a private dining room and patio; music is intentionally turned up to contribute to the energetic atmosphere. The menu emphasizes seared steaks seasoned with influences from northern Mexico’s ranches and cattle farms, coastline-inspired seafood preparations, and classic Mexican staples such as sopes, enchiladas, and chile rellenos. A full bar led by Miguel Valencia focuses on margaritas, tequilas, and mezcal, while the wine list is devoted exclusively to Mexican and California wines. The chef previously attempted a larger Los Angeles project (Maestro in Pasadena, 2017) that didn’t fit, and a second location is planned for the former Preux & Proper space in Downtown LA." - Farley Elliott
