"A Dallas-based cheesecake shop whose owner, moved by the killing of George Floyd, organized grassroots relief for protesters by collecting and distributing bottled water, new face masks and hand sanitizer from the business’s delivery truck. Donations were gathered at the company’s two Dallas-area locations and included contributions from locals and other small businesses; when bottled-water donations overwhelmed the shop’s space, the operation pivoted to soliciting CashApp donations to give to local charities, raising about $2,000 in under 24 hours. The owner closed the shops one day so employees could staff marches handing out supplies, and during the business’s upcoming five-year anniversary will host voter-registration tables to encourage continued civic engagement through November." - Rachel Pinn
