"Benny Chows, a swanky “New York-style” Cantonese restaurant that incorporates elements of Texas cuisine, opened Wednesday, June 28, on Washington Avenue, according to a release. The restaurant has drawn criticism from members of Houston’s AAPI community regarding its branding and marketing. Chinese-born executive chef Shirong Mei presides over the kitchen, offering a menu with 55 items including dim sum, dumplings, and Texas-inspired dishes such as smoked brisket egg rolls and Holy Trinity fried rice.
