"After more than three decades on Grand Avenue, this family-owned red-sauce Italian spot completed a move with an April 21 debut into a newly built 1,300 sq ft West Town dining room that seats about 80 and features a custom wooden bar with brass stools and lush original wallpaper by local studio Urban Source depicting a dreamlike garden with icons like Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra. Owned by the Padilla family since the 1990s, the relocation is deeply personal: patriarch Samuel Padilla immigrated from Mexico in the 1970s, learned the trade at the legendary Como Inn, and now his sons—Sam, the executive chef, and Isaac, who runs front-of-house—have brought the operation back to the neighborhood where their Chicago story began. The menu keeps its classic pastas, thin-crust pizzas and reliable hits such as veal parmigiana, baked clams, and chicken Vesuvio, while adding new items like a cauliflower-crust pizza and a playful chicken parmigiana “pizza” built atop a piece of poultry; the brothers also plan seasonal changes and more specials with a summer emphasis on seafood. The overall vibe blends comforting, nostalgic red-sauce tradition with a brighter, more polished space and an emotional, family-centered sense of accomplishment." - Naomi Waxman
