"Hosting a conversation on Tuesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. (1127 W. Madison Street) with Sammi Katz and Kumiko owner Julia Momosé to celebrate the launch of Spirited Women: Makers, Shakers & Trailblazers in the World of Cocktails; reservations are free. The event will include a drink from Momosé: a nonalcoholic cocktail incorporating hōjicha tea and Three Spirit Livener, which “will be served at the Madison Street Books event.” Momosé—whose illustrated likeness is featured on the book cover and who didn’t do events for her James Beard Award–winning book The Way of the Cocktail because of the pandemic—is quoted saying, “I’m hoping to just let the conversation flow, to open up and be a little more vulnerable and talk about being a woman in this industry,” and adds, “It’s not just women. Because of intersectionality bars and restaurants haven’t been safe places for people who aren’t cis white men.” The conversation is part of a broader project in which Katz and illustrator Olivia McGiff aimed to highlight women across the industry and make the profiles accessible and celebratory; McGiff explains they “asked everyone to submit a photo where they felt really joyful and happy,” and that “the goal was to show each woman in her prime celebrating the part of the industry that she’s owning.”" - Sam Nelson
