"I can hear the “Lord of the Rings” soundtrack wafting in the morning air from this new vegan and vegetarian cafe on the corner of 5th and Irving Avenue. Owner Mohamed Aboghanem, taking a step back from fine dining after decades in the industry, is focusing on Arabic cuisine with a modern twist that channels his hometown of Sana'a, Yemen; at the cafe he plans cafe-style items like almond bear tortes and cauliflower lavender soup, and because the space doesn't have a full kitchen he'll bring in baklava, bagels, and brownies. Open for brunch and lunch (7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.), he's banking on baked goods to fill gaps left by nearby closures, says he still needs to win back a volume of coffee drinkers, and finds the diverse, foodie Inner Sunset neighborhood a good fit." - Paolo Bicchieri
