Sellwood Taiwanese Cafe Wei Wei Will Close This Sunday - Eater Portland
"Wei Wei, the Sellwood spot for slippery noodles and bao bun sliders stuffed with braised pork belly, has decided to close its doors. 'Due to our owner’s health, Wei Wei will close after service on Sunday, Sept. 2,' a Facebook post on Wei Wei’s page reads. 'We’ve had an incredible run in Sellwood and have cherished the many friends we’ve made and the community we have been a part of.' Wei Wei’s two-and-half-year run was a productive one: The Oregonian named Wei Wei the best Taiwanese spot in Portland only a month in, praising the menu’s harder-to-spot Taiwanese dishes like grilled squid and house-made noodles. Andrea Damewood at the Portland Mercury raved about the beef noodle soup, which she said 'lives up to its ever-growing hype.' Willamette Week had similarly kind words: 'This, finally, is the promise of bone broth delivered: stock so dense the very marrow swirls within,' writes former Willamette Week critic Matthew Korfhage.
