"I learned that this 53-year-old sandwich shop, opened by its ownership in 1966, is officially closed just over three months after a car crashed into its building; it had been operating with one door and spray-painted plywood and serving a “Back Door Special” of pick-up sandwiches via call-in orders until the Chicago Building Department inspected and shut it down. The shop was known for originating the line-inducing “Supreme Steak” and the “Hoagy Supreme,” which have been highlighted as iconic/essential sandwiches, and ownership is currently waiting on an insurance claim and will have to work with the city before reopening." - Daniel Gerzina
