"South Side sandwich icon Taurus Flavors is officially closed just over three months after a car crashed into its building. The 53-year-old restaurant had been operating with one door while covered with spray-painted plywood since five days after the car crash on May 30 via a “Back Door Special” — serving pick-up sandwiches out the back door for call-in orders only — until the Chicago Building Department issued an inspection and shut it down on Thursday, the Sun-Times reports. Ownership, which opened the beloved shop in 1966 and was known for originating the line-inducing “Supreme Steak” sandwich and the “Hoagy Supreme” — which are among Eater Chicago’s iconic dishes and essential sandwiches — is waiting on an insurance claim and will have to work with the city before reopening." - Daniel Gerzina
