"At some point in the last few years, Umaya in Koreatown transformed from a run-of-the-mill neighborhood sushi spot to something quite excellent; I wandered in on a Friday night and found the evening started well with an Umayatini (a lychee martini I subbed gin for) and tuna tataki. The star of the show was a ribeye cooked in a screaming-hot toban, served with a mushroom, grilled peppers, asparagus, and cherry tomatoes—each ingredient was well seasoned while still letting its natural flavors come through. I did a few à la carte dishes, but for a more thorough experience Umaya also offers a kaiseki menu starting at $48 per person, and they previously did takeout bento boxes during the pandemic." - Eater Staff
